Where thoughtful narratives become meaningful discourse.
Vritant is an editorial and media platform dedicated to long-form storytelling, critical conversations, cultural reflections, and diverse perspectives.

Our Story
Founded by a group of researchers, journalists, and practitioners from across South Asia, we noticed a gap between the academic literature on development and the public conversation — one filled with jargon on one side and oversimplification on the other.
The name Vritant — meaning “account” or “narration” in Sanskrit — reflects our belief that storytelling is not peripheral to development work. It is the work.
Founded
A small editorial collective forms across three cities — Delhi, Bengaluru, and Lahore — with a shared conviction about development storytelling.
First Issue
We publish our inaugural issue with five essays and over 12,000 readers in the first month.
Media Expansion
We launch the Vritant podcast, broadening the forms our storytelling can take.
Open Submissions
We open submissions to independent writers from across the Global South, growing our contributor base to 40+ authors.
Our Vision
Vritant exists to make conversations around development more accessible, thoughtful, and human-centered. We believe the most meaningful discussions on poverty, governance, ecology, and justice should happen openly, in clear language, and with the voices of affected communities at the forefront.
People First
The realities of development are best understood through lived experiences, not just statistics or frameworks.
Honest Storytelling
We publish essays, reported work, and creative non-fiction that value nuance, dignity, and depth.
Knowledge Without Barriers
Our work will always remain free to read because important ideas should never be hidden behind paywalls.
A Shared Conversation
Development is not a fixed destination — it is an ongoing dialogue that must include everyone to truly matter.
